Monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin at Sarantaporo
It was built in 1750 and remained open until 1919. The main building material used for the masonry had been the slate. In the northwestern corner of its precinct there is a tough tower that had served as a watch tower for the monastery. The religious paintings impress with the delicacy of the figures and their austere beauty.
The monastery took an active part in the Greek War of Independence of 1821. It was also famous for being a shelter for revolutionaries.
